Ornithofeel was born out of a deep passion for the avifauna of Martinique and a dedication to sharing this biological treasure with everyone.
Martinique is home to remarkable birdlife, shaped by millions of years of island isolation. Among the roughly 200 species recorded on the island, two are strictly endemic to Martinique—the Martinique Oriole and the White-breasted Thrasher—and four are endemic to the broader region, including species shared with Dominica and Saint Lucia.
Habitat loss, invasive species, climate change: these unique birds face growing threats. The White-breasted Thrasher, restricted to the Caravelle peninsula, is estimated to have only a few hundred individuals remaining.
Through this website, we aim to raise awareness, document, and celebrate these globally unique species. Every profile, every photograph, and every sound recording is an invitation to look closely at the vibrant life around us.
As the founders of ORNITHOFEEL, Denis Dardanus and Jocelyne Mouriesse are united by a shared passion for Martinique's birdlife and a common commitment to social inclusion. Having contributed to a collective regional dataset of 114,495 observations across 703 monitoring points—working with the local network over 12 years of active participation in the STOC protocol—and being avid field bird photographers, we dedicate our expertise to inclusion and citizen science. Denis brings specialized knowledge regarding iguanas (specifically the National Action Plan for Iguana delicatissima), while I handle bilingual (French/English) cultural interpretation and the organizational management of our venture. Together, we bridge the gap between local nature and international research.
